Ethereum’s Dencun announcement scheduled mainnet activation for 13 March 2024 after testing on public test networks. Its most prominent addition was temporary data blobs under EIP-4844.

Blobs give networks built above Ethereum a separate way to make data available. The announcement also listed changes to the execution and consensus layers, including transient storage instructions and access to beacon block roots.

The notice was revised before activation to include newer compatible client releases. That revision is a useful reminder that an upgrade announcement can change between publication and deployment. This archive brief describes the original Dencun rollout documentation; it does not substitute for current network or client instructions.
